A new isolator docking technique -- the Air Sealed Aseptic Port (ASAP®) system ―has introduced a new concept into the conventional isolator layout design (* Note). Adopting a contactless docking system, the ASAP® system allows a transfer of large-size articles between independent isolators while maintaining the aseptic environment and enables a flexible isolator layout. The ASAP® technology is widely applicable to filling, sterilization, and other equipment. To realize the basic concept conceived by Airex Co., Ltd., JGC undertook joint development project and has succeeded in applying on a practical base.
*Note
To prevent contamination with foreign matter or microbes, aseptic processing pharmaceutical products such as vial, syringe and so on must be manufactured in a clean, aseptic condition. Isolators (glove boxes) are widely used as equipment which provides restricted sterilized space. However, when two or more isolators are required, it is necessary that these isolators should be laid out adjacently to allow directly connect isolators while maintaining the aseptic condition.

Isolator docking is possible while maintaining an aseptic environment.
Large-size articles can be transferred through a wide rectangular opening. The area of the opening is selective according to the size of the article.
Adoption of the contactless docking system free of sliding portions eliminates the possibility of foreign matter being generated during the docking operation.
It is unnecessary to sterilize the pathways for mobile isolators.
Isolator docking operation is automatic.
