Predictive Control for Reactors (PCR) Software Package
The Predictive Control for Reactors (PCR) is a set of Model Predictive Control blocks made by C & Matlab / Simulink. PCR was developed by ADERSA and it is now owned and supplied by SHERPA Engineering.
The control algorithm for PCR is based on PFC technology, as detailed below.
JGC provides PCR/PFC-related engineering and implementation services, based on extensive knowledge and experience in process engineering. |

Systems that do not respond well to controllers like PIDs may benefit from control by PCR/PFC, especially in conditions where: |
| |
- Time delay is a significant factor in system responsiveness
- The system is an integrator (fluid levels, etc.)
- Disturbance variables are measured
| |
Chemical reactors are a specific target of PCR/PFC since PCR/PFC was originally designed to control reactor temperature. PCR/PFC control blocks are made to fit with the most common configurations of heat exchangers. |

On the other hand, PCR/PFC is well adapted for any other kind of process, including: |
| |
- Processes requiring better control: better stability, reduction of standard deviation (quality control, temperature, humidity control, concentration, etc.)
- Processes in which the movements of the actuators should be minimized

As indicated in this table, PCR/PFC has been implemented on many kinds of platforms, such as DCSs & PLCs. Though it is not shown in this table, AD-4820 is a recommended platform for PCR implementation.
Using AD-4820, it is possible to design PCR control applications on Matlab / Simulink and download the designed controller to AD-4820 in several simple steps. |

Model Functional Control Technology for General Industry (PFC) |

Predictive Functional Control (PFC) is the one type of model predictive control technology. PFC is a useful control tool for processes for which normal PID control failed to realize satisfactory controllability. PFC can be applied not only to linear and stable processes, but also to highly non-linear and non-stable processes. |

PFC is the model predictive control algorithm developed by Dr. Jacques Richalet. |
